“What Child Is This (Greensleeves)” performed by the Forest Quartet, Sarah Wallin Huff, violin I, Danielle Rosaria Cummins, violin II, Miguel Cunanan, viola, Ana Maria Maldonado, cello:
This free arrangement of “What Child is This (Greensleeves)” was written in December, 2011. In its entirety, I arranged the piece for string quartet, but different sections can be extracted for various ensembles. For example, the beginning is a duet between violin and viola. The middle section, from pick-up to measure 34 – 81, can be played by two violins, one playing the melody and the other playing a descant part. The first page of Violin 1 contains the entire melody with the exception of the last note which is simply a repetition of the same note found at the bottom of page 1, so this page can be used for a solo performance. The parts are free of bowings, so feel free to add your own articulations. The eighth notes should be off the string.
Non-commercial copying welcome. If you do perform this piece, let me know how it goes in the comment section of the blog! I’d love to hear from you! Peace and joy to you! ~Danielle
